Roof windows

Here we go!

It’s finally the year to start my apartment renovation. I’ve been so eager to begin the work for the past several months.

I’m happy to report that I made some decisions for the beginning phase of the renovation. I will start by replacing two roof windows, one in the bathroom and the other in my bedroom.

I was completely oblivious to the fact how expensive these windows are. They literally cost a fortune.

Besides, the downside is that there isn’t much/hardly any choice in roof windows in Slovenia. The only respectable company is Velux. So I chose their windows.

Some specifications:

  • internal finish: white polyurethane,
  • control mode: manual,
  • standard centre pivot,
  • size: 78 x 118 cm,
  • glazing options: safety (for the bathroom window), extra noise reduction (for the bedroom).

With all the additional selections, like inner and outer shades, they will cost me around 800 – 900 € each.

Velux has a very handy calculator with lots of different specifications on their websites. I couldn’t recommend it more.

Here is the link to the calculator:

The work begins in May. Yaaay!

Apartment renovation: Bathroom floor tiles

I am still undecided on what tiles to use in my bathroom.

At first I really liked the idea of an all white bathroom, using off-white porcelain floor tiles and crisp white subway tiles on the walls. But that was months ago 🙂

Now I am in a totally different mind set! I really love the idea of making a statement with the bathroom floor tiles. You can achieve this in two ways: by colour and/or pattern. I am not a huge fan of colour, but I do love me some patterns.

So I came across some really exquisite patterned tiles. I have been following blogger/youtuber Aimee Song of Song of style’s house renovation and she’s the boss. The floor tiles she used in her master bathroom are va-va-voom. I did some research and found them on, but they are way over my budget.

I did manage to find some others that are more in my price range. They are from the

And here are some more patterns that I love:

What do you think? Let me know in the comments bellow. I’ll be extremely grateful for any insight into the world of tiles 🙂

Apartment renovation: Hunting down the perfect rug

A few years ago, I went on vacation to Turkey. On one of the sightseeing tours, we went to see a Turkish rug manufacturer. On our way to the manufacturer, we drove through a small village and still to this day, I’ll never forget the scene from the streets of that village.

There was a rug laying on the street and a man was riding his motorcycle over the freaking rug. We were all a bit perplexed and asked our tourist guide what was going on. She told us that the more the rug is worn out greater its value. I think she as joking! She was probably just as surprised to see the rug-over-motorcycle-riding-guy, as were we.

Anyways, this post is dedicated to the rug loving people. I wasn’t one of them until recently. I didn’t like rugs because as a child I had to vacuum the floor every Saturday and we had a lot of rugs which are hard to vacuum. I hated it. But, I’m all grown up now and we have iRobot. I know that the British often put carpets in their rooms as an alternative to wood flooring. I never liked that. However, I like rugs that cover a part of the floor and the rest is exposed.

I know that the British often put carpets in their rooms as an alternative to wood flooring. I never liked that. However, I like rugs that cover a part of the floor and the rest is exposed.

I want to incorporate a few rugs in my apartment, but I want them to be smaller so I can remove them in the summer.

One of the places, I believe, that will definitely need a rug is the living room. I want the rug to go partially under the sofa, but not entirely. Because I want my sofa to be grey, I think, a more colourful rug will help me make the place feel more vibrant and cosy.

Another room where I want a rug is my bedroom. Although the flooring in my bedroom will be oak parquet, I still much more prefer putting down my legs on a soft rug rather than a semi-cold wood flooring. A bedroom is a relaxation area and I want the colour of the rug to reflect that hence the more natural colours.

I also want a smaller rug in my bathroom. I want to place it in the middle of the room. Since the tiles will most likely be marble I want the rug to scream colour.

Love the contrast between the grey sofa and pink in the rug.:

Prenova stanovanja: Klasični parket

V mojem 72 m2 velikem stanovanju bo kar 65 m2 površine pokrival parket. Parket bo položen v vseh prostorih, razen v kopalnici in morda v kuhinji.

Za talno oblogo si bom izbrala klasični hrastov parket, debeline najmanj 19 mm.

  • rušitve in odstranitve: sem sodijo rušitve sten/dela sten, odstranitev starih tlakov, menjava oken, notranjih in zunanjih okenskih polic, odstranjevanje starih vrat, štokov…

  • tlakarska dela: sem spada obnovitev obstoječih tal (npr. brušenje in lakiranje parketa), menjava tal…
  • slikopleskarska dela: sem uvrščamo beljenje sten in stropa.

Pod strojne instalacije sodi vse v povezavi z:
